Tucker Martin (00:00)
Hey everybody, welcome to Ranch Ramblin, the Cowboy Gals podcast. I'm Tucker, I'm the Cowboy Gal behind the podcast and I am super stoked that you're here with me today. A little bit about Ranch Ramblin is this is a community where women and I hear husbands are actually enjoying the podcast too. So everybody's welcome here. Hopefully there's something everybody can take, but my goal here is to create a community of ranch women, rodeo moms,
horse girls, no matter where you're at in life, this is a place for us to come together and share your stories, share your experiences, and light somebody else's fire, you know? Keep that spark going that maybe they've kind of lost sight of. And that's what I'm here for, you guys. I'm ready to make waves with people that are ready to make waves, and I'm just...
I'm really thankful that you're here listening because I know that you're that kind of person too. So with that, I'm ready to get into this week's episode and I kinda, if you're new here, I don't script my podcasts, I ramble. And I love it because I'm all about being real and so...
Hopefully you can relate a little bit to my ramblings here. But I just wanted to touch on a couple things.
Sorry, my mind does this where I have a plan and then the plan changes. So the plan's changing, you guys. As we speak, it's changing.
So one thing that has been on my mind this week that I heard at a training was operate at the top of your license. And I love that. That came from a, I think a brain surgeon. And he was telling his nephew this. And he says, look, I'm trained.
in brain surgery. Like, I can perform like the appendix removal, whatever that's called. He's like, but that's something any like med student can do. So why would I take my time, my skills, you know, the thing he's specially trained to do.
away from the people that need the brain surgery or away from the thing that he actually likes doing and has trained for to do something that's below his license. So operate at the top of your license, you guys. This is something that's stuck with me since I heard this and I thought it fit right in with this personal development philosophy that I love so much.
And you can apply this to any aspect of your life. And this is, I think this is why I feel, you know, prompted to share this a little bit today because it doesn't matter where you are, whether you are at your ideal dream job or if you are, you know, stuck flipping burgers at McDonald's, whatever it is, you have the ability to change where you are, for one. But how on earth do you expect...
to improve your circumstances if you're not willing to improve yourself. And I feel like a huge step of that is doing the best you can with where you're at. And we touched a little bit on this in, I think it was in my first episode when I had Amy Jacobs on. We talked about this a little bit, but it's so important that I'm gonna mention it again. And you guys go back and listen to that because that was a really cool episode, episode one. But, you know.
we're always, as humans, we are looking for more all the time. And there's nothing wrong with that. And in fact, I think the drive to, you know, be and do and accomplish is really good. But we can't expect to reach that level of, say, our ideal lifestyle if we're not willing to.
make the most out of where we are currently. Right? So, say you are working at, you know, McDonald's and that's not where you want to be forever and you actually maybe really dislike being there. So what? Show up before your shift. You know, be happy, be cheerful, be the very best.
whatever it is, if you're washing dishes, be the very best dishwasher. If you're flipping burgers, be the very best. If you're cleaning stalls for somebody, they better be spotless. You know, put your whole effort into whatever it is you're doing because when you can do that, you open yourself up to opportunities. When you shortcut yourself, it shortcuts more for you than just the current situation.
So say you're hired to clean stalls and you kind of do a half -assed job. All right, well that trainer might have offered you a riding position if you'd been busting your ass, but you chose not to and you will never have that opportunity again. This person will also not drop your name in a room full of opportunities. Whereas, if you're hired...
to clean stalls, but what you want to do is train horses eventually and have your own big facility and your own, you know, horse program and your own training program and this and that and the other thing. That's great. But in order for you to learn and get those opportunities, you might have to clean stalls for a minute and they better be the cleanest stalls anybody's ever seen in their life. And I just, I firmly believe that, that...
that you can make the best or the worst of your situation and you're gonna get out what you put in. And I know that might sound overstated, but it's so true. If you are willing to hustle around and make some things happen, it go maybe above what you're...
your job duties are because you saw the trash you had taken out and you had five minutes take out the trash that's cool you're gonna get you're gonna get the comments and the referrals that are gonna bring you opportunities and you're gonna attract more opportunities because you're willing to put out the effort and so on the smallest level you've got
you got to put the effort out there if you want anything to happen for you. And you can take this in school, you know? Just do your best. And if you're at work, you know, do the thing and just do it as good as you can. And I love this because it actually can go hand in hand with work ethic and in...
The different, I don't know what I'm trying to say because it's the same industry. The different jobs and interactions I've had over the last several years. It's appalling how...
how sad and pitiful your average person's work ethic is. And it absolutely drives me crazy because I was raised to do this, you know, to operate at the top of your license. And I just, it's very discouraging when...
You know, I see the potential in somebody and they're not willing to put forth the effort. And they're just willing to kind of float by me mediocre. And that's everybody's choice, that's fine. But if you want to get anywhere in life, you have got to expect more of yourself. Get really honest with yourself and make stuff happen, you guys. Opportunity doesn't come to those that sit there with their teeth in their mouth. You have got to want it. And...
You can create opportunities by simply doing what you can the best way you know how. And you hear everybody talk about the work ethic thing and you know the workforce, everything I've been involved in the last several years, nearly everything, I'm not going to say everything, people are always hiring, right? They seem like they can't find staff because the staff that is hired can't show up.
They do show up, they don't do the job. So everybody ends up doing the job anyway. Don't be that person. You guys, don't be that person. Be the person that's like, holy crap, I want a so and so on my team. And then you're getting the phone calls, it's like, hey, what do I want to do to get you to work for me? Right? And then you do those things the best way you can until you are living your ideal lifestyle.
the way you want to when you want to and on your terms because that's what I'm all about. Life's too short to live on somebody else's terms and it's our call how we choose to live this life you guys. It's our call. So expect more of yourself. Try hard. Step up. Step out. Let's lead by example. Let's help other people. You know we all have the ability to brighten a room to make somebody's day better.
that kind of thing it just ends up paying us back in the long run and I don't know about you but I'm not I'm not willing to float around being mediocre the rest of my life I'm willing to bet you guys are not if you're listening to my podcast and it's never too late you guys it doesn't matter how old you are what opportunities you think you've missed if you turn down something really cool if you think you screwed up if
You know, you feel like your life is a complete mess right now. It's not too late, you guys. It is not too late. Find a mentor. Find a friend. Shut down some negativity. Minimize distractions. And you can control the choices you make, the steps you take. You can get into action and change your life. Or start something new. You can make the dream happen. I truly believe that 100 % because I'm living it.
and I'm seeing things change, you know, right in front of me with God's help, obviously, but it's... We have got to have, you know, have the faith to ask for those opportunities and then be brave enough to take them.
I don't know about you, but it's a lot funner to run and win and go hard with people that are also running as hard as they can run. I don't know, I'm just ready to run with you guys, so let's go.
